Produced by Drunken Chorus, DRUNKEN NIGHTS is a series of performance events in pubs, which is now in its fourth year. We started the project back in 2012, because we wanted to bring new, unexpected and surprising performances into a relaxed, comfortable and familiar setting – the pub!
Each year we put out a call to artists, asking for proposals / ideas for 10 minute performances, and we select around 18 of these to present at our events in Autumn – this year we called these the ‘Starters’. Scroll to the bottom for listings of these artists. From these 18 pieces, we selected 3 to provide with development support. They are:
Paige Stillwell (mentored by Alex Kelly, Third Angel)
Two’s A Crowd (mentored by Ursula Martinez)
Lascelles Dance (mentored by Nic Green)
THURS 22 OCTOBER 2015: 8pm – The George Tavern, London
(HEADLINER: Ursula Martinez)
Wed 11 NOVEMBER 2015: 8pm – The Devonshire Cat, Sheffield
(HEADLINER: Lydia Cottrell)
THURS 26 NOVEMBER 2015: 8pm – The George Tavern, London
(HEADLINER: Nathan Birkinshaw)
From these 10 minute pieces we chose three to support further. We provided the artists / companies with a week of free rehearsal space, three sessions with a professional mentor (Third Angel, Ursula Martinez, Nic Green), a small production budget and advice and guidance from us.
These three pieces will be shown as a triple-bill at the same pubs in March 2016 – the ‘Mains‘.
This year we’re launched the DRUNKEN NIGHTS season with a special one-off event in Preston (the ‘Appetisers‘). We’ve invited some of our favourite artists to perform, in partnership with the lovely folks at Derelict – a public programme of contemporary performance.
Events in Sheffield and London are presented with the support of Theatre Delicatessen, and each of these events will feature an invited guest artist (Tonight’s Special).
